Victor,
Thanks for explaining the Network Discovery to me. That make sense of
the Address Fitlers" tab now. I was wondering, when you fix the bug in
the next release about DNS, will it automatically resolve all my current
devices in NetXMS or will I have to rediscover them or change them
manually?
Thanks,

Hello!
1) Yes, NetXMS always use ARP tables for network discovery. To prevent
appearance of unneeded devices, you should set discovery filters. In
your case, to accept devices only from network 10.4.0.0/16, you should
select "Allow only nodes withing gven range or subnet" in General tab
of
discovery settings, and add subnet 10.4.0.0/16 to the list in "Address
Filters" tab.
2) Actually it's a bug. I'll fix it until next release - it will also
resolve names for already discovered devices.
Best regards,
Victor

Subject: [netxms-users] Couple Questions
I just did a new install of version 0.2.15. Seems much more stable
for
me than the last version. The first thing I did was enable Active
Discovery on the network and set my active filter to 10.4.0.0/16. It
added many devices and some devices that aren't even on the
10.4.0.0/16
networks. Here are my questions.
1) Does NetXMS read the arp table of the device it polls and then try
to discover everything on the arp table as well? How did it pick up
devices that don't have a 10.4.0.0/16 address? Now I do have devices
on
the 10.4.x.x network that also have interfaces on 10.3.x.x and other
nets. Seems like it added devices because of those interfaces somehow.
That's not a problem, just wondering how this piece works.
2) For some reason, none of the discovered devices have DNS names. I
looked through the config and ResolveNodeNames is set to 1. Is there
anyway to get my devices in my map to use DNS names if they exist? I
don't really want to go back and change all the names manually.
Nice work on it Victor. It really is looking good.
