to the first question i will let the big guy,victor answer since i am a common user like you.
the answer to your 2nd question will be divided to 4 parts and all the tools you need are provided in the control panel assuming you are using the old console
part 1: you have to create an event in the "events" tool.the info u need to enter there is very strait forward and u can use prebuilt events as an examples.
part 2: you have to create a new trap configuration with the "snmp trap configuration" tool.again, the info you need to enter is strait forward.
part 3: using the "actions" tool u need to create the action u want to invoke when such a trap is received.
part 4: using the "event processing policy editor" you need to create a policy with the event created earlier and the action you want to perform.

hope this info will be enough for you to start using this awesome piece of software.

so what you are telling me is that a trap gets sent everytime a rule is checked and matched and has an event tag ?
the reason i am asking is that i understood this before but for some reason i have checked an agent and i expected to a large number of traps but instead i saw only 2 traps,why is that ?
if i reset the agent,does it reset the data ? also when i define perfmon counters where does it stores the data ? does it sent it to the server every check ? in case of loosing communication to the server,does it stores the data and send upon comm. restored ?

can the agent send traps to multiple servers ? what do i have to configure for it do so

can anyone tell me what kind of traps does the agent send ?
when i create a parser file to check something in the eventlog and this rule is triggered,does the agent send a trap ? or it waits for the server to pull this ?

hi,

i want to install 2 servers that one will act as a full server and the other just for connecting and viewing alarms.
how do i do that ?
do i have to have 2 databases ?
does both servers have to collect data in order to for me to see status and dci values ?
how do i sync the nodes and containers between the servers ?
do i have to define the same user on both servers rather then having just one ?

hello victor,

i still need th answers to the previous post but now i have another question.
i have figured out the way to create and deploy the policies and i have created a test policy which adds additional entry to the "server" parameter and i have successfully deployed it.when i choose the node i have deployed it on and choose to edit the agents config i do not see the change that the policy should have done.
how do i see it ?

hi,

i have made changes to my default agent config in the old console and for some reason i did not see the changes even though i have restarted the agent.when i checked the agent service configuration i saw that it uses the first server i have installed and deleted as the server to download config from.is there any way to fix this ?
i do not want to change every service by hand every time i switch to a new server installation.
maybe this is a feature request,i do not know

it will be great if there was the option to uninstall a policy with having to remember where it was installed.to let the program know where to uninstall the policy from.
