Hello Viktor, team,

I have a simple question, is it possible to install netxms server/agents as user, not as root. If yes, how can this be achieved? Also are there any rpm packages yet? Are they planned ?

Best regards,
Adrian

Hello Team ,

I am trying to monitor one windows machine which is in the customer environment. I installed NetXMS agent on the machine and configure it to be monitored by the main NetXMS agent in the customer environment. Unfortunately this does not work. Is it limitation that agent cannot monitor another agent or i am mistaken with the configuration ? If i set the name of master server to point at the NetXMS server everything works.

So when the topology is like:

NetXMS server (in our environment) --> Windows Machine (the one that has to be monitored in customer environment) : this one works
NetXMS server (in our environment) --> Main NetXMS agent in customer environment  --> windows Machine that has to be monitored : this does not work

Hello Team ,

We have some switches with 10G and 40G interfaces where we configured instance discovery for network interface traffic inbound and outbound. There is also a transformation script on the DCI as follows:

return $1 * 8;

The issue is that when the value is too big in becomes negative and it is show as negative in the graphs. The DCI is configured as unassigned integer 64bit, and we have never had any issues with this. Searching through google and the forum i cannot find any solution for this that works. Do you have any idea how to fix this ? Some screenshots are attached, please review.

Hell Team ,

This is nothing unusual for us since there are a lot of devices, and we delete/add on daily basis. The usual is that i performed database check few days ago and still getting such errors ?
Is there another tool to check the database and clean it from the unused/unneeded devices?

Hello team,

We get a lot of Thread ""Syncer Thread" is not responding" alarms on our NetXMS server, about 150-200 per day. I made a research in the forum and find a lot of topic closed to this. However i didn't see explanation on what is causing this and where to look. From what i found i checked if there are any long running queries and there are none, also changed SyncInterval to 300. This one did make a change and now we are getting 20-30 per day now(I guess if i change it to 500-600 it will stop spamming).

Could you please guide me how to find the root cause and solve this?

Server version: 2.0.7
Agent versions: Latest

General Support / Login with email Using LDAP ?
January 09, 2018, 12:04:36 PM
Hello Team ,

We have our NetXMS server configured and synced with LDAP and working okay. Now we want to be able to login to the NetXMS console using our email addresses, not the username. Is this possible or should i put this as a Feature request ?

Hello team,

Last week i updated some of our agents to the latest version available ( 2.2.1 ). Everything seemed to be working good, but i noticed that icmp.packetloss DCIs are turning in to "unsupported".
All of these were working before. Checked agent files and all the targets are there. The configuration of the DCIs hasn't been changed also. This happens on all of the updated agents, and still working on the old ones fine. Is there something new in the configuration added with the new version ?

Curious thing is that only the icmp DCIs that are going though agents are not working. The ones for the public addresses are working just fine with this new version.

Any idea what is happening ?

Server version: 2.0.7

General Support / Unmanaged nodes sending ICMP alarms
December 05, 2017, 05:38:17 PM
Hello Team,

I have unmanage a lot of devices. Since then i am not receiving snmp alarms from them but the ICMP notifications and alarms are still spamming. As far as i can understand from the admin guide, unmanaged mode should stop any collecting of data and updates.

2.2.2 Unmanaged status
Objects can be unmanaged. In this status object is not polled, DCIs are not collected, no data is updated about
object. This status can be used to store data about object that temporrary or at permonently unavailabe or not
managed.

how can i stop the notifications for the ICMP ?

General Support / Issue with auto apply/remove template
November 13, 2017, 11:56:33 AM
Hello team,

I have configured a simple script which work as a DCI in NetXMS. The script and the DCI works perfect, but the devices on which i need the script are a lot and i have configured auto apply on a template, which seemed to be working fine.

The auto apply script is really simple, it check if the device have a specific Custom Attribute and if it is router or switch:

if ((GetCustomAttribute($node, "RANCID_ENABLED") ~= "1") && ($node->isRouter ~= "1") || ($node->isBridge ~= "1"))
{ return true;
} else {
return false;
}

Yesterday for some reason auto apply set devices under the template which doesn't really apply to the filter. This resulted in false positive alarms. The strange thing is when i initiate configuration poll the DCI is not removed. If removed manually it does not apply again (just tried to reproduce the issue). Is there a problem with automatically removing DCI when they no longer passes though the filter?
Configuration poll with debug level 6 from problematic device attached (nothing happens).

Hello team ,

I am observing strange issue where every time a DCI for ping on a particular devices is polled it result in two values (example attached). Checked in the database, the values there are the same:

|  261543 |      1509960003 | 100         |
|  261543 |      1509960003 | 0           |
|  261543 |      1509960103 | 0           |
|  261543 |      1509960103 | 100         |
|  261543 |      1509960203 | 0           |
|  261543 |      1509960203 | 100         |
|  261543 |      1509960303 | 0           |
|  261543 |      1509960303 | 100         |

Any idea what is causing this or how can be fixed ?

Hello Team ,

I am monitoring the up time of all my devices using NetXMS. During some circumstances NetXMS can't get any value from devices and fill that missing value with 0 (resulting in triggering false positive alarm for system reboot). Is this made by design and is there a way to fix this or some kind of workaround. Screenshot attached (in the database it looks like there is no value, but in the console application there is 0)

Hello ,

I have a script which returns custom attribute to my devices. Now i made a script as external parameter which i am using as DCI. I set up everything and it seems to be working.
I am passing two parameters to the DCI first one is from the custom attribute script and the second one is the node_primary_ip. I am applying this in a template, as follows:

RStatus(%{script:CustomAttributeSetScript}, %{node_primary_ip})

This is returning the correct parameters in the DCI, but the DCI is not polling at all. If i want to get status for the DCI i must force poll it. If i give the Custom Attribute parameter value manually it is working with no issue and polling on the interval I set up.

General Support / Using script for DCI parameter
June 26, 2017, 10:12:33 AM
Hello Team,

I am using external parameter for DCI and script for custom attribute.

Now i am trying to use the custom attribute and node_ip variables in my templates, so i won't have to give the parameters on each DCI manually.

I am trying the following:

RStatus(%{script:CustomAttributeSetScript}, %{node_primary_ip})

The admin guide says that i cannot use the custom variable directly and i must get it from the script with syntax as above. Unfortunately this is the part i am failing on.

Any advice on what is wrong with my syntax will be highly appreciated.

Hello team ,

I have NetXMS server 2.0.7 installed and agent 2.1-M1. The issue:

The server crashed for some time and the agent cached all the data, its about 600MB, and now i can see that it is sending the data pretty much with the rate it is collecting. So this means it will never fill in all the data in the server. On version 2.1-M1 of the agent i can change parameter:

DataReconciliationBlockSize = ****

But the server wont receive block size bigger than 1024, in the change log of the version:

- Agent data reconciliation block size and timeout can be configured

1. Does this mean that server 2.1-M1 will accept blocksize bigger than 1024. Will this speed up the process of filling up the old data?
2. Is there any other way i can dump the data from the agent and manually insert it in the server database?
3. If not, is there any other way i can speed up the process.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Support / Network Discovery questions
May 02, 2017, 05:42:06 PM
Hello Team ,

I have a question for notwork discovery. I checked a lot of topics in the forum, but couldn't get my answers.
My server is 2.0.7 version and most of the agents are 2.1-M1 (the rest of them are 2.0.8 ).

1. Does the server tell all the agents to search for the subnets/addresses pointed in the network discovery configuration tab or the network discovery is working only for networks directly connected to the server. In short is the network discovery over agent supported ?
2. If Yes, can i tell to a specific agent to look for specific subnet/iprange with a specific snmp community (or indeed it will use only the default community).

3. Is there a way to manually start the network discovery or i depend on polling interval ?

4. If the discovery over agent is not supported, is there an easy way to add more than 200 nodes in netxms?

Best regards
Adrian

Hello team,

I am planing on changing my netxms server with new one. I have the new one configured and ready to go, but first i need the database from the old server. My original plan was to dump the base (it is mysql database) and migrate it to the new server, until i found a topic here in the forum. My new plan is.

Old server version is 2.0.7.
New server version is 2.0.8.

1. Upgrade the old server to 2.0.8. and upgrade the database.

1. Stop netxmsd on old server
2. Export database using nxdbmgr:

nxdbmgr export export_file

4. Create and initialize new database as usual (this is already done)
5. Import data using nxdbmgr:

nxdbmgr import export_file

6. Run netxmsd on new server

Any advice on this will be appreciated.

General Support / IP conflict with deleted/changed node
January 19, 2017, 02:31:13 PM
Hello team,

Not for first time i am facing an issue where, if i play a little bit with specific device moving it from zone to zone and changing it's ip address, there come a moment that i get IP conflict even if the IP doesn't exist in netxms. To be more specific, here is example scenario.

lets say i have two zone 3 and 33, and one device with management IP of 10.10.10.10 and Public IP of 100.100.100.100.

I am adding it to zone 3 with the public address, then changing it to the private one. Next i am changing the zone to 33 (the device is still with the private address), setting back the public IP address is okay. If i move it back to zone 3 i will get IP conflict with the exact same device, but it really doesn't exist in console (for zone 3 anymore). I checked the database directly from the machine and there is no entry for this IP address, unfortunately i get the error.
If i check the address map of the zone i can see that the IP is used, but for sure the device doesn't exist with this ip anymore.

After a while (1-2 hours or even more in some cases) the device/IPaddress disappear   from the address map of the zone and it is vacant again.

Is this normal? How can i avoid this ?

Adrian

Hello team,

I am creating template for ESXi and i am facing some troubles. I have simple Instance discovery for the CPU utilization using SNMP Walks - OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.3.1.2 which is successfully determining all of the CPU cores. For DCI name i am using CPU core {instance}. Which is just a digit/number for the CPU core and it is working fine.So far so good. On the other hand on performance tab i am using exactly the same logic for the name "Core  {instance} CPU  Utilization", but it gives me the actual value of the OID as a name (screenshot attached), which is strange. I don't have OID for the CPU core number or something (or i don't know about it ). is this some kind of bug or i am on the wrong logic ?

Another thing is that i want to bind all CPU graphics together, of course different color for each CPU. Is there a way to make this working in my case (using instance discovery and so on) ?

General Support / VMware MIB modules
January 16, 2017, 04:43:24 PM
Hello team,

I have a question on monitoring ESXi and more specific on compiling mib modules for it. I checked VMware site and downloaded the modules. I have compiled them following the administration guide. No errors occurred. Everything seems okay, but i can't find them in the console. How can i use them ? or where to search them i have added our ESXi machine and the snmp is configured, i can get the interfaces and snmpwalks and everything, but can't locate the newly compiled mibs.

Best regards,
Adrian
