I have used netxms for two days with good results. Very exciting. I
install the Win32 binaries on a system running XP and mysql. Here are my
initial observations;
The ping subagent is working well. How about an argument to change the
data payload? I find that ping times across my WAN connections can be very
dependant on packet size.
On the subject of subagents. is the api documented? Could I write my own?
How about in my "language" of choice, Perl?
I came in this morning and noticed that all the ports on a Cisco 4506
switch had been discovered and placed into the object browser. As many of
these ports are enabled but un-used, there were may critical objects. My
first thought was to unmanage all the copper ports, and then only manage
the interesting ones (those connected to servers and routers). I tried to
shift-click the lot to do a mass unmanage. No luck. I then tried the
keyboard shortcut (CTRL-U). No response. I unmanaged the parent object
(the switch) but the interfaces status did not change.
I will continue to work with netxms and report back.
Thanks,
Jon Polacheck
