Title: Network Map Based on STP/RSTP
Post by: dev246 on August 12, 2016, 04:22:31 PM
Hi.

Would be great having a dynamic network map drawn on the basis of the STP / RSTP/ .. protocol. Which visually showed all paths (even those duplicated) indicating with path is active, with path is the backup and so on. And with an indication of the root switch.

Automatic L2 maps already process STP information to build the topology.
(as well as LLDP, CDP, ARP tables, etc.)

With a bit of work, you can easily also make link labels on maps show you the information you posted about.
(just collect path STP properties into a DCI, and then show that DCI as a link label)

In manually added map I agree, but it will be nice to have that functions in automatically generated maps. For now maps are generated based on LLDP, and don't show backup/stand-by links. It will be even grater if the automatically generated maps could show in some nice way phisical inks in agregation (especially if any links included in the aggregation are broken). And last thing, it will be nice to have in automatically generated shown in some manner (like color) link speed, then you can quickly see if something are link in 100MB insted 1GB etc..
