Title: Host dependencies
Post by: bvirgil on May 18, 2012, 05:07:29 PM
Is there the possibility to have a feature like "Host Dependencies" that is found in Nagios?
I have many nodes that depend on some core switches but I would like to receive alerts only from the core switch that is down and not from the nodes that dependent on it.

This can be done with scripts in event processing policy. You can determine switch where host is connected, and ignore event if it is down. I will also add a feature request for implementing it as standard event correlation rule.

Best regards,
Victor

Hi,

Could there be timing issues with this approach? If you have 10 nodes dependant on 1 switch, all with a status interval of 1 minute, you're bound to have some nodes going down before the switch node.

If it's turned in to a full-fledged rule, it'd be really cool if the rule could trigger the status (or more generally, any random DCI?) to be checked before evaluation; but perhaps to prevent it from bogging down the event processor make this optional.
