Title: Network monitoring
Post by: eliassal on October 29, 2021, 12:28:28 PM
Hi, I setup NetXMS because I understood that it is one of the best 10 tools to monitor a network. Can you please let me know how can I activate*start monitoring my network traffic in NetXMS? Thanks

Thanks, those videos are out-of-date. I am not sure I see in any video network monitoring topic!

They may be old, but they are still useful. I watched them all to get an idea of how NetXMS worked....

Yes, correct but what I am looking for is monitoring all traffic on my router, in the video "Basics 8: Data collection (DCIs)", he shows how to collect devices temperatures which not what I am interested in. Any idea?

What exactly do you mean by traffic monitoring? If you want to gather stats from the router interfaces then you can look in the forum to see if there is an existing template for your router which does what you want, or you can configure DCIs that poll the router for interface counters and track stats that way.

If you want to monitor traffic more specifically then you might need a different kind of tool. I am pretty sure there is a thread on this topic within the last couple of months or so. Try searching for netflow or ipfix.

If your router is accessible via SNMP and list of interfaces is shown under it in the object tree, you can right-click these interfaces and select Create Data Collection Item.

Hi
This link helped me in traffic monitoring

https://lasiszm.wordpress.com/2017/10/22/netxms-template-for-monitoring-mikrotik-interfaces/

There is also an example fro traffic that is a shortcut in the Documentation but this link made it click for me
Bit of a learning curve at the start but once you get it.. personally would not bother with the rest ..its like vi  you like or you don't..

Best of luck
Dawid
